Aerospace English

Here we display two example aviation English lessons.  These lessons are based on the recently published coursebook Aviation English for ICAO Compliance.  At present this is the only available specialist coursebook designed for pilots and air traffic controllers needing to pass an ICAO English test.  We have taken the basic material and added a teacher's guidance and explanation, in the form of audio commentary and highlighted page presentation (flash video).  This breathes life into the pages of the coursebook.

The sample lessons are presented in two forms:

1. Within an XML/Shockwave wrapper and menu system.  The menu system provides an easy way to find particular aspects.  Files can also be delivered in standalone form (eg interactive CD/DVD).

2. Additionally the material may be further wrapped inside a web 2.0 hosting service called Voicethread, which allows comments by viewers in the form of text, audio and/or video.  This then allows students to post questions and feedback, and also enables teachers to set speaking tasks which the teacher can then assess and comment upon  This feature is very important in preparing candidates for an aviation English test, which is mostly based on spoken English.
